Headquarters of the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg

The new headquarters of the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg bears witness to a unique company history. Themes as clarity, objectivity, economic accountability and future orientation are translated into the language of architecture. A graphic figure was selected for the ground plan: a capital E with the addition of two linear structures, interconnected by two glass halls. The building, with its strict boundaries and self-contained character, expresses itself in a monolithic architectural language, the objective nature of which is underlined by the slightly roughened black granite facade. This is juxtaposed with a contrasting, amorphous construction of distinctive lightness, very modern and open. It has a smooth, barrier-free entranceway and ordered, unobstructed lines of vision and deliberately contrasts with the typographically assertive view of the orthogonal buildings. This new building is making a statement about sustainability; the clear geometrical structure of the overall complex guarantees easy orientation and accessibility on the inside while outwardly creating a moment of calm in the urban scene. Thus the LzO forms a new centre between the historic inner city, EWE Arena and the station.
